DIOR AT SEA

When Lala gifted me this dress, I knew exactly where I was going to shoot it. In the sea like Venus emerging from her shell. I just felt the goddess within me called upon when my eyes laid sight on it at one of my various visits to their Berlin showroom. But the vision wasn’t fully clear and I wasn’t sure where I would go with all the travel bans imposed on us due to Corona Virus. Out of nowhere I decided I was going to join Jacky and Sarah and road trip to Denmark for Copenhagen Fashion Week. Stopping on Denmark’s country side the weekend before for a pre-charge was the best decision ever. I packed the dress, not knowing how Denmark’s magnificent mother nature would engulf me in its love. Paired with the new Dior Bobby and a Dior silk scarf, my vision of Dior at Sea was complete. Within a matter of 20 minutes, my Dior at Sea was born, the morning before we packed our stuff and continued to Copenhagen.

This entire trip was about taking opportunities as they arise, riding the wave and see where the river of opportunities flows into an ocean of abundance. But for that you need to jump into the cold water. Whether it’s an e-mail to a brand you’ve always wanted to work with, pitching an idea for collaborations or requesting an invitation to a show where chances for approval seem so minute, it’s scary. But you just need to jump.

I feel honoured to be working with the house of Dior. A high fashion luxury house that is the embodiment of femininity and divine energy. Dior has always employed fashion as a vehicle for empowering women through this very form of art, allowing them to express themselves by the means of which they dress.
 The modern woman today channels her power from going nude and being able to undress in public on her own accord – sort of reclaiming the narrative of a pre-existing structure, but for me it’s quite the opposite really. It’s not less clothes and freeing the nipple that makes me become one with my power. It’s a long beautiful delicate gown, as the nature of a woman, paired with an exquisite handbag made from the most luxurious of leathers that took time and dedication to make, just like the formation of my character and being, adorned with beautiful pearls to sprinkle little highlights here and there, as to tell the viewer to pay attention to the little things too and a silk scarf tied across my ponytail that freely plays in wind when I move, free just as my fun spirit.
I feel earthed. One with nature. One with myself.
A trip should always end with a journey within yourself, whether it’s through fashion or art, music or even physical.

Fashion makes we wander.

“There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood,
leads on to fortune;

Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.

On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.”
